Cutoffs jeans make a comeback
Cutoffs jeans make a comeback
Sheared denim shorts are making a comeback. And they're all grown up.
To get True Religion's frayed Zuma shorts (LINK) - for $172, no less - head to tony purveyors Neiman Marcus or Bergdorf Goodman. Macy's is selling cutoff bermudas by Guess? for $69. And Levi's 501 cutoffs are cool all over again, available at Urban Outfitters for $48 (LINK).
Cutoff jeans used to signify all that was, ahem, wrong with society. Irregular and unraveling, they cursed formality and celebrated freedom - sexual and social, as much as sartorial.
Some of the new cutoffs are still glorious wrecks, with dangling threads, shaggy hems and occasional holes. .
But all have back pockets with contemporary designs. Unlike the original versions, waistbands usually sit well below the hips. Stitching is entirely 2008.
Cutoff shorts by Raven, Paige, Hudson and 7 For All Mankind have blown out of Studio LX in Miami since the first shipment arrived in April, manager Michelle Sanchez said. They are priced between $120 and $200 - right in the ballpark of jeans with legs attached.
"It's a very, like, Bohemian-chic look, and a lot of people are putting them with beaded tunics or flower halter tops," Sanchez said. "Or they throw on a pair of high platform heels with a sexy top at night."
It's a look that's just starting to register with the fashionable crowd. H&M, the trend-cheap chain, hasn't even had time to knock them off yet.Finish the article at azcentral
